Internship/Graduation: a solution for an amphibious spray pontoon
Royal IHC and Witteveen+Bos are working on a solution for an amphibious spray pontoon for the dredging industry. Supplementary activities in the dredging industry often take place on the land and water boundary, therefore methods are tailored to work in both dry and wet environments. The operations are often dependent on tidal flow In case of flooding, dry equipment cannot be used in the supplementation site, nor for eb floating equipment. At low water depth, both dry and wet equipment are unsuitable.
Trailing suction hopper dredgers and cutter suction dredgers often work 24/7 and do not want to be dependent on factors such as tidal flow The benefits of equipment that can be deployed regardless of tidal action, surface or water depth are therefore enormous. A spray that can be used 24/7 in both dry and wet conditions is a technical breakthrough and a game-changer in the dredging industry.
In two previous studies, the idea of an amphibious spray was examined. The studies have resulted in a basic solution for moving both the spray and pipeline in wet and dry conditions. This must now be further developed into a concrete design and tested for practical, technical and economic feasibility.
Are you the student who would like to undertake this technical challenge and be at the heart of a game-changer in the dredging industry?
